...is you should enjoy them!
The holidays can be difficult for those of us who struggle with food. The key is to not let it control you. Whether you are nervous about going over your calorie budget, and the conflict that ultimateky accompanied, or constantly contemplating which yummy foods you'll consume while on a calorie break, don't let food ruin your fun! Find a balance between both worlds.
Enjoy the foods you want, but be purposeful in your choices. You should be able to incorporate special occasion eating without feeling guilty, but make it count. Maybe skip the Shipley's or Mcdonald's that cousin Jane brought over to fuel the prep work, so when you sit down to eat, you can eat the things that are really worth it.
On the other hand, the holidays are not a free for all pass to eat anything and everything you want. Don't restrict, but don't over do it! Any unhealthy behavior, whether earned or not, will only promote more of the same and could potentially spiral out of control. Remember the key is to not let the food control you. Focus on the merriment, enjoy your friends and family, find a balance, be lenient but not overindulgent!
I'm writing this because finding a balance between these two borderline obsessive thought processes are part of my personal struggle... Be calm and enjoy!
